Comprehensive Servicing of Panasonic Air Conditioning Units in Richmond Near Mackay
At Climate Air Solutions, we pride ourselves on delivering top-notch air conditioning services that ensure optimal performance and longevity of cooling systems. Recently, we were tasked with servicing a residential home in Richmond, near Mackay, which had a total of 14 Panasonic air conditioning units—9 indoor 3.5kW units and 5 outdoor units. The family had been experiencing inconsistent cooling, especially in the upstairs multi-unit, and required a comprehensive cleaning and performance check for all the systems.
Understanding the Scope of the Project
The client reached out to us after noticing that their air conditioning units were not performing as efficiently as they once had. In particular, the upstairs unit was not cooling properly, which was a growing concern, especially with the warmer months approaching. The Panasonic systems, known for their reliability, had not been serviced in a while, leading to a noticeable decline in their performance. Our team knew that a thorough assessment and service would be required to restore the systems to peak efficiency.
Chemical Cleaning of 9 Indoor Air Conditioning Units
The indoor air conditioning units had accumulated a significant amount of dust, debris, and dirt over time. Dirty filters and coils not only reduce the unit’s efficiency but also circulate dust and allergens in the air, impacting indoor air quality.
We began the job by performing a chemical clean on all 9 of the 3.5kW indoor units. Chemical cleaning is a powerful method that involves using a specialised cleaning solution designed to remove tough grime and buildup from the unit’s components, including the evaporator coils and filters. This process helps to restore the unit’s cooling capacity and ensures that the system is operating at full efficiency.
Our team carefully dismantled the units to access the internal components, ensuring that the delicate parts such as the coils and fins were cleaned thoroughly without causing any damage. After applying the chemical solution, we used pressurised water to rinse off the grime, leaving the coils and filters in pristine condition.
Checking and Clearing the Air Conditioner Drains
A key part of air conditioner maintenance is ensuring that the drainage system is working properly. Blocked or clogged drains can cause water leakage, mould growth, and even system failure. During the service, we made it a point to inspect and clear all the drains connected to the indoor units.
We noticed that some of the drains had become clogged due to the buildup of dirt and debris over time. Our technicians used specialised equipment to flush the drains, ensuring that water could flow freely out of the units, preventing any potential water damage or operational issues.
Servicing 5 Outdoor Air Conditioning Units
Next, we moved on to the 5 outdoor Panasonic units. These units are crucial for dissipating the heat extracted from the indoor environment, and if they become clogged with dirt or debris, their efficiency is significantly compromised. The outdoor units were exposed to the elements, which led to a buildup of dirt on the fins and condenser coils.
We cleaned the outdoor units, focusing on clearing any debris from the fan and condenser coils to allow proper airflow. Proper cleaning of outdoor units is essential for the overall performance of the air conditioning system, as it helps maintain energy efficiency and extends the lifespan of the equipment.
Addressing the Upstairs Multi Air Conditioning Unit’s Cooling Problem
The most significant issue the client reported was that the upstairs multi-unit was not cooling effectively. After completing the cleaning and drain checks, we conducted a detailed diagnostic to pinpoint the cause of the problem. Using a pressure gauge, we performed a pressure test on the unit and discovered that the refrigerant level was lower than recommended.
The pressure test revealed that the system was short on gas, which was likely the reason for the insufficient cooling. A refrigerant leak can occur due to a variety of factors, including loose connections or worn components. In this case, we found that the flare joints were not fully tightened, leading to a slow leak over time.
To resolve the issue, we added 255 grams of R32 refrigerant, bringing the pressure up to 145 psi, which is within the optimal range for the system. We then tightened the flare joints to prevent further leaks. Once the refrigerant was replenished, we tested the unit to ensure it was cooling properly, and the results were immediate. The upstairs unit began functioning at its full cooling capacity, much to the relief of the homeowners.
Final Testing and Client Satisfaction
After completing the servicing, chemical cleaning, refrigerant top-up, and tightening of connections, we performed a final test on all the units to ensure everything was working as expected. Each unit was inspected for airflow, cooling efficiency, and proper drainage.
The homeowners were highly satisfied with the results, especially with the improvement in cooling upstairs. Not only had we restored their air conditioning system to full working order, but the chemical cleaning also improved the air quality inside the home.
